Cancer Campaign

There’s not a more terrifying word in the medical dictionary than cancer, and when the cancer strikes a child, it’s doubly so. Optimist International, in it’s efforts to be a friend to all youth, has long put efforts into raising funds for pediatric cancer research and helping families dealing with this disease high on it’s priority list.

We hope to sponsor a child to a specialty camp again this year for children with cancer, and have taken the first step towards that by acquiring two “cancer banks” from Optimist International.

These receptacles are similar to the ones you see at the cash registers of merchants everywhere. Half of the funds collected will go to our camp sponsorship, and the remainder will go to O.I. for their continuing support of research at Johns-Hopkins Medical Center.

We’re in the process of getting these placed at local businesses, and we hope to get more than the original two in place quickly.

If you happen to see one and you have change, whether it’s coins or dollars, please remember to help combat a disease that we all want to beat.

And watch this space for details on where the banks are and how much has been collected.
