To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind

To make all of your friends feel that there is something in them

By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in kids

What Optimist Clubs do

Optimist Clubs are serious about "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" and do their part through community service programs. Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their community in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their community and react to it.

Optimists conduct 65,000 community service projects each year, spending $78 million in their communities. Six million kids are positively affected by Optimist programs.

Our Club

The Optimist Club of Des Plaines is a service club. Its original slogan, "Friend of the Boy," was changed to "Friend of Youth." Our activities have included the Oratorical, of which we have had three winners in our district contest, sponsorship of Little League, Boy and Girl Scouts, and numerous school groups. We also offer a Fishing Derby, Kite Fly, and a Junior Golf Tournament. We are continuing to grow in membership and have added many new programs to those traditional ones we have sponsored for many years. In particular, we have joined with other clubs in our international organization to fight Childhood Cancer.

In November of 2009 our club was 55 years old

Optimists value Learning, Leadership, Excellence and a sense of community. Besides, being an Optimist is something that anyone can do. As Walt Disney said: “You can dream, create the most beautiful place in the universe...but it takes people to make that dream a reality.”

The Optimist Club of Des Plaines, IL, meets the first and third Thursdays of each month and would enjoy having you visit our meetings, so that you can see how we help to make "our optimism come true."
